Snapshots off the road

Steve Amedee, Tommy Malone and John Magnie at Rist Canyon, Colo., September 2002

Thanksgiving, Fort Collins, Colo., November 2002

For Thanksgiving, John Magnie and his wife, Kathe Malloy, hosted the other five members of the Dudes, their families and a host of friends for an extended-family-style Thanksgiving at the Magnie abode in Fort Collins.

Folks chowed down on two or three home-cooked turkeys, mashed potatoes, dressing, cranberry, squash soup, pasta, baked salmon and all sorts of casseroles, cakes, pies and goodies to go around.

Here's a couple of snapshots, courtesy of Fort Collins fan Elizabeth Rodgers.

Rist Canyon, Colorado, September 2002

In September 2002, Tommy Malone flew out to Colorado where he joined fellow Dudes John Magnie, Steve Amedée and Tim Cook for songwriting session/getaway.

The guys holed up in scenic Rist Canyon, about a half-hour west of Fort Collins, over several days at a fan's cabin retreat, working on new songs, refining songs that had been started at the Mississippi sessions (below) and working on new arrangements of old favorites.

Mississippi home, August 2002

In early August 2002, the Dudes spent several days in Mississippi, where they enjoyed several extremely productive days at Tommy and Jennifer Malone's home in Jackson, writing new songs, "singing and picking."

"It was a fun time, we went down to work on music and just had so much fun, sitting around singing and picking, hanging around with Jennifer and Maggie, and eating. ...Tommy cooked red beans and this recipe his dad had, a cabbage casserole. And Steve cooked some gumbo." -- Tim Cook
