Late at night video

Postby classicalpaca on Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:41 pm

While playing on You Tube I ran across a pretty good band called Blue Orleans playing "Late at night". Different feel with a sax and wash board, but an interesting take on the song. They have some other pretty cool tunes I've never heard of. May be originals?? What do the guys think of bands covering their songs! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtnQanvu4Gg is the link for "Late at night"

Late at Night is credited to John Magnie and members of the Iguanas, Rod Hodges & Joe Cabral. It first appeared on their CD, "Iguanas", which was released in 1993, a year before the subdudes' 3rd record, "Annunciation" which included their version, released in 1994.

I've heard the Iguanas version of Late at Night, was really good. Like hearing the subdudes play it live.

What do the guys think of bands covering their songs!

Joe Cocker did a cover of One Word (Peace) on Hymn for my Soul released in 2007. You can buy it on Itunes and such. I heard Tommy talking about it somewhere (maybe on the Live at Ram's Head DVD) and he said something to the effect of "sell it Joe, sell it" Hopefully they made a few $$ off the deal. I think when Joe Cocker does a cover of your protest song, you might have made a good one.

I love that song, but every time I listen to it I am reminded of a story I heard George Carlin tell. Seems he had a dog that would attempt to "get friendly" with his cat, so one year during the holiday season, he took a picture of the dog and cat "wrestling" and put it on the front of his annual Xmas card. When you opened up the card there was of course, one word, Peace (he said that was how he spelled it). RIP George.

Thanks for the info on "Late at Night". I should have known that it was credited to John and the Iguanas, but didn't realize that. I would love to hear something from the Iguanas. Does anyone know if anything from them is available on cd, or anything by 3 Twins that is available? I have Tommy's solo effort, and Tiny Town, and they are both good listens.
Thanks for reminding me about Joe Cocker covering the Subdudes. I had let that slip my mind, but remember it for sure. Joe is not bad company!
