Hey Ya'll - Have been putting some serious thought into all us subdude forumites meeting up during Jazzfest. Some of my favorite places -- and I'm hoping those of you familiar with New Orleans will put in your two cents: Liuzza's by theTracks (just outside Jazzfest), Lola's (a Spanish restaurant real close to Jazzfest, bring your own bottle), Martinique and Upperline (two restaurants my son waitered at while at Tulane and for several years after -- semi-expensive and not on the beaten path and so I personally would nix), K-Pauls (in the Quarter, for lunch), Mothers (In the CBD - Central Business District --less than a mile from the French Quarter. Cafe DuMonde (for a quick meet n greet for coffee and beignets, 24 hrs a day). I'm so happy that so many of us are going to New Orleans this year. 4 shows with the subdudes -- unexpected and cannot wait to see which can be gone to. I know for sure that I'll be there for shows at Jazzfest and the Rock N Bowl on May 2nd. I want to go to Chickie Wah Wahs (sorry, spelling may be off) but so love saying it throughout the day lately -- one of my friends last year couldn't get Chickie Wah Wah out of her speech after seeing the place while we travelled to Jazzfest down Canal. I now understand:)
I know I'm being a mom in some respects (or maybe the administrative assistant that I am) but am suggesting that you go online and get the New Orleans 2010 guide, research as much (as you guys whom are new to the city can). I love New Orleans with a passion. Try to research a bit. Be safe. (I'm a Chicagoan, it's ingrained, you know?) Realize there are homeless throughout the city and it will break your heart.
I know I plan to hop on the St. Charles streetcar, walk through the Garden District, taking photos of all the beautiful architecture throughout the city and will end up on Magazine Street, shopping. The French Quarter has some pretty cool places too. Algiers is one of my most favorite neighborhoods of New Orleans. A free ferry ride across, great walking tour. Please go to the Louisiana Music Factory on Decatur Street in the French Quarter. They''ve a great selection of music, t-shirts. Losing space on my rant. Cannot wait to meet you all:) Much love. Julie
